چکیده

Empirical validations of software metrics are used to predict software quality in the past years. This paper provides a review of empirical studies to predict software fault proneness with a specific focus on techniques used. The paper highlights the milestone studies done from 1995 to 2010 in this area. Results show that use of machine learning languages have started. This paper reviews works done in the field of software fault prediction studies. The study is concentrated on statistical techniques and their usage to predict fault proneness. The conclusion drawn is the future studies should use more of class level metrics and the best technique to derive fault predictors amongst statistical techniques is logistic regression. General Terms Statistical techniques, empirical studies, fault predictors.

Evaluation of Classifiers in Software Fault-Proneness Prediction

Reliability of software counts on its fault-prone modules. This means that the less software consists of fault-prone units the more we may trust it. Therefore, if we are able to predict the number of fault-prone modules of software, it will be possible to judge the software reliability. In predicting software fault-prone modules, one of the contributing features is software metric by which one ...

A hybrid approach for the prediction of fault proneness in object oriented design using fuzzy logic

Empirical studies conducted by the researchers on object-oriented design metrics are useful for forecasting the fault-proneness of classes in object-oriented design. In this study, we propose an integrated hybrid model to empirically investigate the fault-proneness of object-oriented design. We will use a subset of the Chidamber and Kemerer suite and all of the MOOD metrics to predict fault-pro...

Empirical Validate C&K Suite for Predict Fault-Proneness of Object-Oriented Classes Developed Using Fuzzy Logic

Empirical validation of software metrics suites to predict fault proneness in object-oriented (OO) components is essential to ensure their accuracy in practical industrial. In this paper, we empirically validate the Chidamber and Kemerer (CK) metrics suite metrics for their ability to predict software quality in terms of fault-proneness: we explore the ability of these metrics suites to predict...

Investigating the Effect of Object-oriented Metrics on Fault Proneness Using Empirical Analysis

This paper presents an innovative metric based on a class abstraction to capture aspects of software complexity through combinations of class characteristics. The study also used software metrics effectiveness in finding the classes in different error categories for the three versions of Eclipse, the Java-based open-source Integrated Development Environment. Many studies used Logistic regressio...

Software Fault-proneness Prediction using Module Severity Metrics

Most of the fault prediction studies have focused on the binary classification models that determine whether the input modules are fault-prone or not. More recently, several studies have shown that severity-based multi-classification models are more useful since they can predict the fault-proneness depending on the severity of the defects in the module. We present new severity-based prediction ...
